When Alex Wells saw the beacon had disappeared from the top of the hill in the parkland she decided a new momument was required. Inspired by the famous concrete cows and Milton Keynes' founding father Lord 'Jock' Campbell, she designed an 18-metre high, 50-metre long cow sphinx – with the head of the late Lord at the front! "It's not a memorial as such," said Alex. "It's a contemporary monument. It combines a cow body lying down with the face of Lord Campbell – which the park is named after. "I've designed it to include solar panels to power fountains – which emanate from the dark patches on the cow – and lighting from below at night time." Alex – who has a background in construction as well as traditional art and sculpture – anticipates the sphinx would be hollow with a surface made from environmentally-friendly mud and straw. "It would sit on a concrete plinth which could display plaques from sponsors and be high enough to prevent vandalism of the main sculpture. "I am currently in discussion with the Arts Council about my idea and am looking for funding from local businesses and organisations.
